Faith Over Fear: Learning to Trust God When Life Feels Impossible

“The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” — Psalm 118:6 (NIV)

When Life Feels Like There Is No Way Out

Faith over fear. It sounds so simple, doesn't it? It's easy to wear those words on a T-shirt, but what happens when life gets hard? When circumstances at home feel overwhelming, you can't see a way forward, and you wonder how things will ever change?

I've been there.

There have been times when situations at home felt incredibly difficult. I couldn't see a way out, and I didn't know how things would work out. Looking back, I can see that Jesus knew exactly what I was going through. He walked beside me and helped me through it, even when I couldn't see a way forward.

Sometimes, I wish I had truly believed the words on my own T-shirt. If only I had stood firm in faith and trusted that God had good plans for me, rather than allowing fear to take hold. I didn't need to understand everything or know how things would turn out. I needed to trust the One who was walking with me.

Faith Doesn't Mean You Never Feel Afraid

Psalm 118:6 begins with a powerful reminder: “The Lord is with me.”

Choosing faith doesn't mean we never feel frightened, anxious or uncertain. It means bringing those feelings to Jesus and trusting Him in the middle of them.

I've learned that we don't need all the answers before we trust God. Sometimes, faith means taking a step forward when we cannot see the whole path. At other times, it means getting through one day at a time and holding on to His promises.

Trusting God to Provide for My Family

Another area where I've struggled with fear is finances.

As a mum, the thought of not being able to provide for my family has weighed heavily on me. Worrying about bills, everyday expenses and whether there will be enough can feel overwhelming.

I've had to learn to stand in faith and trust my loving Heavenly Father to provide what I need. I haven't always known where the answer would come from or how things would work out.

But I can honestly say that I have never been without what I needed.

That doesn't mean life has always been easy or that I've never worried. However, when I look back, I can see God's faithfulness. He has provided for me in ways I couldn't have imagined.

Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:31–33 not to worry about what we will eat, drink or wear. Instead, He calls us to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.

This doesn't mean sitting back and doing nothing. We still need to make wise decisions and take responsibility for our circumstances. However, we don't have to carry the burden of tomorrow as though everything depends on us alone.

The ways God has shown up for me have been incredible, but that's a story for another blog!

Looking Back at God's Faithfulness

It's often easier to recognise God's goodness when we look back than when we're in the middle of a difficult season.

I can now see how Jesus helped me through circumstances I didn't know how to navigate. Even when I felt trapped or frightened, He never stopped walking with me.

Those experiences have taught me something important. When fear starts to creep in, I can remember what God has already brought me through. My circumstances may change, but His character doesn't.

We might not understand what God is doing in the moment, but we can still choose to trust Him as we take the next step.

Living Out Faith Over Fear

Perhaps you're facing difficulties at home, worrying about money or feeling uncertain about the future. Maybe you sense God calling you to do something new, but fear is holding you back.

Whatever you're facing, I want to encourage you to bring those worries to Jesus. Ask Him for wisdom, seek His guidance and take the practical steps you can today.

You don't have to pretend everything is fine. You can acknowledge your fears while choosing not to let them make your decisions for you.

I'm still learning this myself. I don't always get it right, but I know how important it is to remember God's faithfulness rather than allow fear to take over.

More Than Just Words on a T-Shirt

When I created the Faith Over Fear design for Adoptd, the message meant something to me. Yet my own journey has shown me that wearing those words and truly living them out are two different things.

I want Adoptd to be about more than clothing. I want our designs to encourage people, share God's Word and create opportunities for conversations about Jesus.

Sometimes, the very message we wear is the one we need to hear ourselves.

So, when fear starts to take hold, remember the words of Psalm 118:6. The Lord is with you. You may not know how everything will work out, but you can take the next step with Him.

Faith over fear. Not because life is always easy, but because we know the One who walks with us through it.
